CEI provided construction management and inspection for a federally-funded MCDOT pilot program that removed and replaced thermoplastic striping, then applied a high friction surface treatment (HFST) on approximately one mile of combined Maricopa County roads: Maricopa Road (MP 15.5 to MP 16.5) and Bush Highway (MP 31.75 to MP 32.6). The pilot program was implemented to improve safety at these two locations by increasing the traction of vehicles with the roadway.

The application of the HFST does not require milling of the existing asphalt; however, it places a thin layer of epoxy resin over a special ground stone that resists polishing and wear and aids in skid prevention.
