SR 85 / MC 85 INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS
Buckeye, AZ
CEI provided quality assurance inspections for the construction improvements to the intersection of MC 85 and SR 85 for access to the Arizona Public Service (APS) HUBwest campus.
The work included the addition of turn lanes and intersection improvements associated with the construction of their new HUBWest campus located at the southwest intersection of MC 85 and SR 85 in the West Valley.
The campus construction required significant changes to its ingress and egress based on the required traffic studies; therefore, improvements were necessary to the southbound lanes of SR 85.
A new right-turn lane on SR85 (north of MC 85) was constructed as well as a new traffic signal. Because the roadway improvements were in the ADOT right of way, CEI’s management and inspection team assured that the work was in conformance with ADOT construction standards and in compliance with the ADOT construction permit.
Although APS had initially planned to perform the resident engineering work (utilizing their design team), they changed direction and added this service as a separate contract. Barry Brown, Sr. Resident Engineer, oversaw the permit and the construction administration process, and Henry Munoz and Mike Larsen performed the civil and electrical field inspections, including materials coordination, acceptance and approval.
